Stoa: Daily Stoic Quotes

Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 11, 2026

Stoa has no accounts, no sign-in, and no server run by the developer. Your favorites, journal and settings stay on your device. If you’re signed in to iCloud, your favorites and journal also sync through your own private iCloud. We use privacy-focused, anonymous analytics to learn which features are used. That’s it.

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how the iOS and Apple Watch app Stoa: Daily Stoic Quotes (“Stoa” or “the app”) handles information. Stoa is made by Hemant Bhonsle, an individual developer based in California, United States (“I”, “we” or “us”).

In short:

  • There are no accounts and no sign-in.
  • We do not run a backend server for the app, and we do not collect your name, email address or contacts through the app.
  • Your journal entries, favorites and settings are stored on your device. If your device is signed in to iCloud, your favorites and journal entries are also stored in your own private iCloud, which we cannot access.
  • We use TelemetryDeck for anonymous usage analytics. It is not used for tracking or advertising, it is not linked to your identity, and it is never sold.
  • Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details.

2. What we collect, and what we don’t

Stored on your device (not collected by us)

The following data is created and kept by the app on your device. It is not sent to us:

  • Journal entries you write
  • Favorites, collections progress and streaks
  • App settings, such as your topics, theme and daily reminder time

Stoa also uses an App Group, a shared storage area on your device, so that the app’s widgets and Apple Watch app can show your content. This data stays on your devices.

Anonymous analytics

We receive anonymous usage signals through TelemetryDeck, as described in section 3. They are not linked to you.

What we do not collect

We never collect your name, contact details, location, payment information, journal text or search text. Stoa has no ads and does not track you across other apps or websites.

3. Analytics (TelemetryDeck)

Stoa uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service based in the European Union, to understand which features are used so the app can be improved. It receives anonymous signals when things happen in the app, such as opening it, viewing the subscription screen, saving or sharing a quote, or using a widget. Each signal includes basic technical details like app version, iOS version, device model and language.

Signals are anonymized and cannot be used to identify you. They are not linked to your identity, not used for tracking or advertising, and never sold. What you write in your journal or type into search is never sent.

For details on how TelemetryDeck processes data, see the TelemetryDeck Privacy Policy.

4. iCloud sync

If your device is signed in to iCloud, Stoa automatically syncs your favorites and journal entries between your devices through your own private iCloud account, using Apple’s CloudKit private database. This data is stored by Apple under your Apple Account and is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy. The developer cannot access, read or recover data in your private iCloud database.

Stoa has no separate sync switch. If you’re not signed in to iCloud, or you turn off iCloud for Stoa in iOS Settings > [your name] Apple Account > iCloud > Saved to iCloud (called “Apps Using iCloud” on some iOS versions), your data stays only on your device. You can check the current sync status in Stoa’s settings.

5. Purchases

Stoa Premium subscriptions are sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase system. Apple handles payment, billing and your payment information. We do not receive your name, email address or payment details. The app checks with Apple (through StoreKit) whether you have an active subscription so it can unlock Premium features. As described in section 3, anonymous analytics may record that a purchase step happened (for example, “purchase completed”), but never who made it or how they paid.

6. Permissions

Notifications

If you allow notifications, Stoa schedules a local notification on your device for your daily reminder. There is no push notification server, and no notification data is sent to us. You can turn notifications off at any time in iOS Settings.

Photos (add only)

Stoa asks for “add only” access to your photo library, and only when you choose to save a share image. It is used solely to save that image. Stoa cannot see, read or upload your existing photos.

7. Information Apple provides

If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may provide us with crash reports and aggregated App Store and app usage statistics. Apple controls this sharing, and it does not identify you to us. You can change it in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.

8. Data retention and deletion

  • On your device: deleting Stoa from your iPhone (and Apple Watch) removes the app’s locally stored data, including journal entries, favorites and settings.
  • In iCloud: if you used iCloud sync, you can delete Stoa’s iCloud data in iOS Settings > [your name] Apple Account > iCloud > Manage Storage (called “Manage Account Storage” on some iOS versions), then choose Stoa and delete its data.
  • Analytics: analytics signals are anonymous and cannot be tied to a specific person, so we are unable to find, export or delete the signals of an individual user. TelemetryDeck retains analytics data according to its own policy.

9. Children

Stoa is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will delete it.

10. International users and your rights

Depending on where you live, laws such as the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA, as amended by the CPRA) give you rights over your personal data, such as the right to access, correct, delete or obtain a copy of it, and to object to or restrict its processing.

Because Stoa does not collect personal data that is linked to your identity, and your journal and favorites stay on your device or in your own iCloud, we generally hold no personal data about you to access, correct or delete. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising. You can still contact us at easymote101@gmail.com with any privacy question or request, and we will respond. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Anonymous analytics are processed by TelemetryDeck in the European Union. Data in your private iCloud is stored by Apple in accordance with Apple’s policies.

11. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If a change is significant, for example a new kind of data being collected, we will also mention it in the app’s release notes.
